A Weekend in New Orleans

Chris and I decided it would be fun to take each other on surprise trips. This past weekend he took me to New Orleans! It was amazing. I absoulutely love the city! It wasn't what I expected it to be like at all. We drove down on Friday evening and got to our very cute and quaint Hotel St. Marie in the French Quarter. Once we got there we had a very thirst-quenching and strong Hurricane at Pat O'Brien's! One drink was enough for me! On Saturday morning we ate New Orleans famous beignets at Cafe Du Monde. Cafe Du Monde is the original French Market Coffee Stand. Beignets are fried dough covered with mounds of powdered sugar! They were yummy! We enjoyed some sight-seeing as we walked to the National World War II Museum! It was a very interesting place; we could have spent hours there! I learned alot from the museum and Chris! He is one smart cookie! We then drove to lunch at Franky and Johnny's, where we bravely tried friend green bell peppers. They were really good. We drove through New Orleans Garden District to look at the huge, historic homes/mansions on our way to the Mardi Gras Museum. It was a trip in itself driving there. We were driving into a "scary" part of New Orleans, but Chris kept on going and we ended up right where we needed to be! We got to see some of the damage from Hurrican Katrina along the way. The Mardi Gras Museum was great! It is where the props and floats for the Mardi Gras parades are housed. We got some fun pictures too! We then quickly made our way back to the French Quarter to meet for a Historical New Orleans Cocktail Tour! Our tour guide walked us through some of New Orleans oldest/most famous bars to and gave us insight into the unique cocktails made famous theres...it was history with a twist! We enjoyed a drink at each bar! Chris and I enjoyed drinks such as the Pimm's Cup (tasted like spiked iced tea with a cucumber...refreshing), a mojito, a hurricane, Voo-Doo (vodka grape slushy drink), Abscence (licorice flavored drink), and Sazerac! We were walking light on our feet after our tour was over. Ready for some food we got ready and headed to dinner at K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen. It was the most amazing food ever! It all had such distinct tastes. I enjoyed gumbo along with stuffed soft shell crab, and the BEST twice baked potatoes! Chris had blackened fish! We were so full but managed to enjoy dessert! We planned on going to Bourbon Street but it started pouring down rain! On our way back we stopped at the Coushatta Casino in Kinder, Louisiana. We didn't win any moo-lah, but enjoyed gambling among the senior citizens! We would have definitely won an award for being the youngest there..haha! Chris made a perfect trip even better my stopping so I could get the final Harry Potter book! It was an amazing trip and can't wait for Chris to find out where I am taking him!
